Why Won’t Mighty Mom Train the Fat Guy? Interview with Weight Watchers CEO David Kirchhoff

by Dr Fitness on June 28, 2012

We opened the show with Katie recapping her recent triathlon – she finished in the top 4 in her age group. We also had a spirited discussion regarding Mighty Mom’s reluctance to train the Fat Guy.

Our guest to day was Weight Watchers CEO David Kirchhoff.

David Kirchhoff isn’t just the President and CEO of Weight Watchers International—he’s a member of Weight Watchers® himself and one of its biggest success stories. Now, in his inspiring new book, WEIGHT LOSS BOSS: How to Finally Win at Losing—and Take Charge In an Out-of-Control Food World, Kirchhoff candidly divulges his personal story from his slide into full-fledged obesity, to his struggles managing his relationship with food and finding an exercise regimen that sticks. Kirchhoff offers a frank, funny and groundbreaking look at the challenges to losing weight and keeping it off—and makes the case for radically rethinking what it takes to achieve long-term success and a healthy lifestyle that lasts. In WEIGHT LOSS BOSS, as well as in his popular blog “Man Meets Scale”, Kirchhoff’s startling honesty and real-life struggles with body image and weight loss aren’t what we expect from a successful male CEO. He admits to being far from the perfect role model. By sharing—and sometimes over-sharing—details from his own weight-loss odyssey, and drawing on the latest scientific research, Kirchhoff discloses the key rules that have worked for him—and what can work for anyone. These include how to learn to love healthy and satisfying foods that love you back, strategies for throwing willpower out the window and forging patterns that stick for good, and embracing behavior-change tools that empower you to succeed.

Kirchhoff’s candid reflections on his struggles with body image and weight loss from the male perspective will resonate with men and women alike, and will open the door for others to openly discuss their diet and weight loss journeys. Throughout the book there are inspiring profiles of the struggles and success stories of celebrity friends like NBA alum Charles Barkley, and everyday Weight Watchers members.

In WEIGHT LOSS BOSS, Kirchhoff’s message is not about living in deprivation, but rather is about how to establish healthy habits and master your environment. Much more than a personal account, WEIGHT LOSS BOSS is an invitation and guide for readers to find their own inner “Weight Loss Boss” that will lead to a sustainable healthy lifestyle.

All royalties from the book will be donated to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.
