It seems that if you’re belt is too tight around your waist – that could cause you to have a high blood pressure reading. So if you’re going to the doctor to get your blood pressure checked wear stretchy pants and make sure that you are seated and that your doctor checks your blood pressure in both arms and waits a few minutes before be puts that blood pressure cuff on you. Good thoughts on what to do when you have your blood pressure checked but don’t forget, the doctor hardly if ever is the one checking the blood pressure. It’s always a nurse in the ante-room after you’ve already been sitting for 5 minutes in the waiting room. Yes, it’s important to check in both arms but co-arctation of the aorta is pretty rare. The biggest reason people’s BP is elevated is because they are overweight. BMI > 25. To put it is perspective for a 6 foot man, if you are over 185 pounds, you are overweight. For a 5 foot 6 inch woman, if you are over 155 pounds you are overweight. Don’t kid yourself, you’re not big boned, you’re not so muscular that because muscle weighs more than fat, you’re ok. You are overweight and that will cause high blood pressure.
